Telaffuz sayfasında sunduğumuz çalışmalar test/alıştırma şeklinde. Önce cümleyi dinliyor ve sonra mikrofon simgesine dokunarak kendiniz okuyorsunuz. Okuyuşunuz cihazın anlayacağı derecede düzgünse tek okumada sizi anlayacaktır. Cihaz sizin söylediğinizden farklı bir şey yazıyorsa yazılanı silip tekrar dinleyin ve tekrar söyleyin. Gerekirse daha yavaş söylemeyi de deneyebilirsiniz.
Hindistanlı Profesörün Çalışması
Bu çalışma konusunda bana ilham veren, Hintli bir profesörün Hindistan’da denediği ve başarılı olduğu çalışmadır. Bu profesör Hindistan’da İngilizce telaffuzu çok kötü olan insanların yaşadığı bir mahalleye ATM cihazı gibi bir bilgisayar koymuş. Oradaki halkın kullanımına sunulan bu bilgisayarın internet bağlantısı var ama faresi klavyesi yok. O zaman bu bilgisayarı nasıl kullanacaklar? Sesli komutlarla. Bilgisayar sadece sesle kontrol edilebiliyor, internette arama yapılacaksa sadece konuşarak komut verilebiliyor. Tabi bu sesli komutlar İngilizce olmalı. Ona göre programlanmış.
Profesör bilgisayarı kurup gidiyor. 3 ay sonra mahalleye gelip sonuçları gözlemlediğinde beklediğinden çok daha iyi bir sonuçla karşılaşıyor. Mahalledeki çocuklar bilgisayarla anlaşabilmek için aksanlarını saf İngiliz aksanına çevirmişler.

In order for you to test and improve your pronunciation skills, we have made a pronunciation page in which you will find lots of exercises. Here is the link.
The work in the pronunciation page is in the form of test/exercises. First you listen to a sentence said by a native speaker and then say it yourself after activating the microphone. If what you say appears to be something different from what is written there, try saying it again after listening again. You can try saying it slowly this time.
Indian Professor’s Experiment
What inspired me to do this work was the experiment of an Indian professor who installed an ATM-like computer in a poor neighborhood where people spoke English in a terrible accent. This computer had internet connection and could be used for making searches. However, it had neither a keyboard, nor a mouse. The only way to control and use the computer was voice. It had a speech to text engine and the people in the neighborhood had to speak English to communicate with it. But they had to speak in British accent. Otherwise the computer wouldn’t understand them.
The professor went back to the neighborhood a few months later. What he observed was more than what he expected. Everybody spoke perfect British accent.
In the pronunciation page of this website, you will hear native speakers and, just like the people in the Indian neighborhood, you can improve your pronunciation by listening to them and then persuading the computer that you are a native speaker 🙂
