TWO DRIVERS
Cemalettin is a truck driver. He travels long long distances with his truck. He carries lots of different things with his truck. Sometimes he carries bananas. Another day he carries coal. He says he likes his job. But it is sometimes very difficult. In the summer it is very hot but he can’t stop driving to have a rest because he has to deliver the goods on time. In the winter it is very cold at night. The truck has a heater but it is not always enough, especially when he is crossing mountains.

Cemalettin has a partner whose name is Arif. Arif is a young driver. He drives the truck only when Cemalettin is too tired. Arif says he doesn’t like this job. He would rather be a dentist. It was his dream job. But he couldn’t go to school. So he is a driver. Both Cemalettin and Arif say that the most risky part of a journey is when they are crossing through a town because there are lots of cars in the city and drivers are very careless. Arif says young drivers are more dangerous because they drive too fast. Cemalettin doesn’t agree with him. He thinks the most dangerous drivers are women because they are panicky.

Cemalettin is married with three children. His wife, Atiye, is a housewife. She looks after the children, and in her free time she watches TV or visits the neighbors. Hamza is the oldest of the children. He is a high school student. He is good at maths. His ambition is to be an engineer. Hamit is a middle school student. He is not very happy at school because he doesn’t understand anything. He likes computer games and always thinks about them. He can tell you the names of all tank models in the World of Tanks online game but he doesn’t know how to say his name in English. The youngest child is Ayşe. She is only two years old.
